WA: Mickelberg brothers seek $11 million compensation

The MICKELBERG brothers, whose conviction for the Perth Mint gold robbery was overturned,
now want more than $11 million compensation.

RAY MICKELBERG says the compensation claim is another chapter in the swindle saga which
resulted in the overturning of their convictions for stealing 68kg of gold from the mint
in 1982.

The pair won their eighth appeal last month after self-confessed corrupt police officer,
TONY LEWANDOWSKI, admitted in a court of law that he had fabricated evidence against them.

Mr MICKELBERG says he doesn't believe the claim is unreasonable or greedy because it's
based on their assets and earning abilities before their convictions.

This includes three valuable Perth beachfront properties and a lucrative abalone fishing
business.

Mr MICKELBERG says the compensation should come not from the public purse but corrupt
police involved in their case and from the police union. AAP RTV ajm/sd
